What do you want to be?

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” they asked. I had no answer, I still don’t. You see, “being” someone in this society entails one to prove his/her existence. That comes through how much you are worth. Worth is measured by the amount of money you make, the number of people who know you, or even whose lives you have touched.

I just want to listen to the song of the birds. I want to move to the countryside and walk while wondering about the universe. I want to see nature, without tall buildings. I want to lay under the night sky and feel the energy of the universe flowing through me. I want to gaze at the Milky Way without any distractions. I want to live in a cottage and fall asleep to the gurgling sound of the brook nearby. I want to wake up and run along the edge of the woods. I want to dance in the rain. I want to read my favorite book while the sound of rain ushers new life. I don’t want to know why the government is failing. I don’t want to know how to fight the evil who prey on the good. I don’t want to be adept enough to fight for justice. There is no justice. I just want to live a simple life, I want to be invisible. I don’t want to become “someone”. I just want to “be”.
